Hunting Update
Week of Nov. 10th to Nov. 16th

The Cibola Sportsman's Club's South Ranch has been
gearing up for another exciting waterfowl season.
Both ducks and geese are beginning to make their way
to the Cibola Valley, however with warm temperatures again this
week, the influx of birds is relatively slow. We are
encouraged by the predictions for colder weather in the areas north
of Cibola which will soon bring greater numbers of birds to the
valley.
Last season the valley saw a population of close to
10,000 birds (which was up from 7,000 the previous year) and all
indicators are pointing to birds counts close to 10,000 this season
as well.
The increase in bird counts last season was due mainly to improved nesting
conditions in Southern Alberta, Canada, Montana, Wyoming and Utah
which are our main source for migrating birds.
In the past few years very few immature (or
juveniles) geese have been taken in our area, resulting in a
downward spiral trend in the wintering goose population in the
Cibola Valley. However, last season there was a noticeable
increase in the amount of young birds taken, which is indication
that the flock is now on the increase. As a result hunters should
see another increase in the Cibola area goose population in the Fall
of 2008.
Because the South Ranch has experience some excellent duck hunting
in seasons past, we have cleared additional land and added more
ponds in the off season so our hunters can continue to enjoy this major
improvement in the duck hunting on our ranch.
We have already booked many hunters for this season,
and we encourage you to make your reservations soon before the Club
all space is taken.
We hope you can schedule some time to make a
reservation with us for the 2007 - 2008 waterfowl season.
Happy Hunting!
